Welcome Dr. Sameer Kapoor
Hello, my name is Dr. Sameer Kapoor, I am extremely excited to announce the opening of my practice limited to periodontics and dental implants located in Collegeville, PA.
I am a native from Allentown, PA. and attended Temple University, where I received my Baccalaureate and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science with high honors.
Upon graduating, I then became a college professor teaching Biology, Anatomy and Physiology. My ultimate dream was to become a dentist, so I left my role as professor to attend the dental school at State University of New York.
Throughout dental school, I found myself gravitating toward a career in periodontics.
Once I obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgery, I then decided to continue my studies in periodontics at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, where I graduated with a Master of Science in Periodontology and a minor in Oral Pathology. During this time, I worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Indianapolis, where I obtained a certificate in periodontics and dental implant surgery. I also received advanced training in dental implant surgery, gum grafting, bone grafting, oral surgery, sedation and oral medicine.
I credit my time at the Veteran’s Center for my ability to create a calming environment for my patients with high anxiety, a gift my patients continue to appreciate today. My extensive medical journey prepared me well in understanding how oral health plays into a patient’s overall health. I am passionate about getting to know my patients and offering them the most state-of-the-art techniques in periodontics and dental implant surgery. I also have a private practice for the last two years outside Allentown, Pennsylvania.
In the coming months I will be participating with certain dental insurances i.e. Aetna, Ameritas, Cigna, Guardian, Humana, Met Life, Sun Life, United Healthcare, Delta, Carrington and Principal in my practice. Please call my office at 610-492-7090 to schedule a consultation appointment so that I may you with your dental desires and needs.
Bone Resorption
What can be done?
Here at the Lanap & Implant Center we find that patients presenting bone resorption have often had at some point suffered a dental injury or use dental orthotics. This type of trauma within the mouth and to a patients teeth can cause swelling and the eventual loss of bone. Such damages may take place from prolonged use of orthodontic appliances, dentures or tooth grinding.
A great option for many to regain their dentition and achieve better fitting appliances is to have an implant retained denture fabricated with the expertise of the Lanap & Implant Center. Dr. Hsu and Dr. DiGiallorenzo have years of qualified experience helping their patients this type of dental remediation.
Throughout your life, your bones constantly repair themselves, removing old bone (resorption), and adding new bone where it’s needed (ossification). This is a natural process that’s important for your health and well being. When resorption happens at a higher rate than it can be replaced, you are at a higher risk for fracturing or breaking a tooth or loss of your maxillary and mandibular ridges due to wearing dental appliances.
Your bones have two kinds of cells that do all the work to repair your skeleton as needed. Osteoclasts break down old bone and deliver it into your bloodstream (resorption), and osteoblasts build your bone where it needs to be reinforced (ossification).
Symptoms of Bone Resorption in your oral cavity can include:
  • Changes in your bite and facial structure
  • Discomfort when you chew
  • Gum disease, particularly periodontitis (severe gum disease
  • Shifting or loosening of your teeth
  • Headaches, facial pain, and jaw pain
  • Increased difficulty speaking
  • If you wear dentures, changes in the fit and comfort of your replacement teeth
If you’re missing a tooth due to tooth extraction, gum disease, or injury, the jawbone in the area of loss no longer receives stimuli, osteoclasts will begin to break down the jawbone, and osteoblasts will no longer prioritize rebuilding the bone structure there. new bone will still form, but at a slower rate than the bone that is being destroyed. Wearing dentures may increase the rate at which the bone deteriorates. If you wear dentures and they’ve become loose, it may be a result of bone loss.
If you’ve already experienced significant bone loss, bone grafting may be necessary in your dental treatment to preserve and repair your ridge. Bone loss in your jawbone can seem over whelming and even frightening, but with our expertise and we can work with you to develop the best approach for treatment in our patient focused center. Call our offices for a consultation and a CT Conebeam Scan to review your specific bone resorption and become healthier today with our specialized assistance within of our conveniently located offices.
