Sinus Augmentation and Gingival Grafts
What is Sinus Augmentation?
It is a surgical procedure that allows the sinus floor to be repositioned, creating enough space to properly place an implant on the upper maxillary arch. After the Sinus Augmentation procedure, sufficient bone is present to properly place implants and restore with implant crowns.
An implant is placed in the regenerated bone following the sinus augmentation procedure.
Following sufficient healing of a sinus augmentation, implants are placed in a predictable and successful manner in the regenerated bone.
Receding gums cause patients to lose their confident, beautiful smiles. In addition, your teeth may be come sensitive and more at risk for gum disease/ trust our team for effective gum grafting treatment that will restore your oral and overall health.
What is a Gingival Graft ? A tooth is surrounded by two types of tissue. The first is gingiva (gum), which is pink in color and thick and dense under a microscope. Gingiva form a tight seal around the tooth which serves as a barrier against the penetration of bacteria to the underlying supporting bone. The gingiva also helps to withstand trauma from brushing, eating, etc. The second is a type of tissue known as mucosa. It is found directly below the gingiva and is red, very thin and appears loose under a microscope. It does not seal tightly around the tooth, or withstand trauma well.
When recession of the gingiva occurs, the body loses a natural defense against both bacterial penetration and trauma. When there is only minor recession, some healthy gingiva often remains and protects the tooth, so that no treatment other than modifying brushing techniques are necessary. however, when recession reaches the mucosa, the first line of defense against bacterial penetration is lost.
No matter how meticulously the patient tries to control the bacteria, there is a greater chance of it penetrating the mucosa and affecting the supporting bone around the tooth. In addition, gum recession often results in root sensitivity to hot and cold foods, and an unsightly appearance to the gum and tooth.
A gingival graft is designed to solve these problems, A thin piece of tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth, or gently moved over from adjacent areas, to provide a stable band of attached gingiva around the tooth. We also us dermis donor tissue and stem cells to effectively restore form and function using a pinhole technique
