In most patients, once you have the teeth extracted on your upper back region, especially around the back molars, a process called sinus pneumatization happens. And what that means is that your sinus, post-extraction, your sinus would expand.

That air pocket would expand, you will lose bone vertically. And remember that dental implants – for dental implants to be successful, they need to have bone around them. We see a lot of patients missing upper back molars without sufficient bone. So this is where sinus lift, or the so-called sinus elevation, can really come in handy to help the patient, because it is a very predictable way to perform bone graft in the sinus.

Literature has shown that it has extremely high success rate. Actually, even higher than a dental implants themself at about 96 to 98 percent long term. And by adding and augmenting additional bone height in the sinus, a dental implant could be placed predictably. Then of course that's going to restore the patient's bite and function.
