Improve Your Oral Health & Overall Health With Nutritional Therapy in Collegeville
You may only think of your diet in terms of your weight. However, your diet affects many other things too, including how well your body heals, your probability of developing tooth decay and infections, and even your longevity. Nutritional therapy is an important part of your holistic care. Just as with homeopathic medicine, nutritional therapy is based on the idea that the body is very good at healing itself when given the right tools.Doctor David DiGiallorenzo on nutritional therapy Read Transcript
Hi, I'm Dr. David DiGiallorenzo at the LANAP and Implant Center. I'm going to just address very briefly today a little information on nutrition and oral health. At the LANAP and Implant Center, we're really dealing with inflammatory components of health because our patients either have gum disease or they're going to lose their teeth and replace their teeth, whether it's one tooth or a whole set. But the most important and critical aspect of what we do is to reduce inflammation. And so when we talk about nutrition and diet, that's very different for each individual. There can be blood-type issues, health-related issues. So the bottom line here is that we need to take each patient individually and develop a protocol that reduces inflammation in the dietary scheme.
There isn't one diet that is perfect for every human being. We'll also tailor in a nutritional fortification program that will address the current diagnosis and symptoms and medical history. We'll tie in nutrition and diet and hope that the patient will see the benefits of these recommendations. Particularly given all of the research that we have, how critically important diet is. I will say one thing. There are some basic tenants today that we need to understand. And when we talk about diet, the first thing is you gotta be eating organic foods. We are laden with pesticides, glycophosphates, they're found in 78 percent of the population urinalysis. Organic foods, grass-fed meats, and small fish are critically important because the larger the fish, the more toxicity or heavy metals.
We need to be aware of just some basics in the process, and even with the organic fruits and vegetables, we still need to wash them and clean them. Our goal is to reduce toxicity in the human body, reduce inflammation, and create an environment where our body can really operate fundamentally as it's designed to be without what I'm going to call cellular interrupters.
We’ll work with you one-on-one as your dedicated functional medicine specialist. Depending on your diagnosis, we’ll customize an approach based on your medical history and your unique needs. Your treatment plan may include dietary changes such:
- Making half your grains whole grain
- Varying your veggies
- Focusing on fruit
- Getting calcium-rich foods
- Going lean with protein
- Finding your balance between food and physical activity
