Healthy Bodies and Happy Smiles: Holistic Dentistry Explained

Welcome back to the ongoing blog of the LANAP and Implant Center. Today, we want to answer your questions regarding holistic dentistry and the total-body care we offer to our patients. Our Collegeville and Williamsport, PA dental teams are not just concerned with treating your gum disease — we also want to know what caused it and help you prevent it from a total health perspective. Below, we have provided answers to some of the questions we most commonly hear regarding our holistic care. Please feel free to contact us with any additional concerns you may have.

What is holistic dentistry?

Holistic dentistry boils down to a really simple idea: we take your total body health into account when treating your dental problem. If you come in with TMJ pain or gum disease, we look at the cause of the disease or discomfort, not just the symptoms. We understand that symptoms are your body’s natural way of fighting off disease. We aim to help your body fight off threats — your body knows what it is doing; we just want to help it along.

What is the Wellness Center and how can it help me?

The Wellness Center is the part of our practice that focuses on holistic care. The Center, located right above our dental office, is operated by specially trained professionals that can help you get the care you need. With that addition of the Wellness Center, we were able to begin providing a much larger range of services (see below). Our services are designed to treat the whole body, not just your mouth — we can help with headaches, anxiety, eating disorders, and more.

What kinds of holistic services do you offer?

Holistic dentistry offers a respect for your total body health that traditional dentistry may not. This means that we provide a variety of services that you may not find at other dental practices. Some of these services include:

Acupuncture — Our licensed acupuncturist can help treat a variety of issues with proven techniques. Acupuncture is designed to target certain areas of the body in order to adjust the flow of energy throughout. We can treat a wide variety of problems including infertility, eating disorders, stress, allergies and sinus problems, migraines, anxiety and depression, and more.

Massage — Massage therapy can be used to relax and heal the body. If you are experiencing stress, tension, headaches, migraines, or similar ailments, you may benefit from this service. Speak with our team to learn more about how massage therapy can help you.

Reflexology — Reflexology is the application of pressure on certain areas of the body in order to encourage well-being in other parts of the body or organs. Everything in the body is connected. By caring for specific areas, we can help ease discomfort and relieve anxiety. Talk to our team if you think this therapy could help you.

Nutritional Therapy — Good nutrition is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle. In order to maintain a healthy body, a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables is needed. Your dental or overall health may be suffering due to a lack of proper nutrition. Our team can advise you on diet changes that can create a major difference in your health.

All of these services are designed to help you become a healthier individual … and a healthier body means a healthier smile! We also offer holistic services specifically for the mouth, such TMD treatment and metal-free dental implants. Talk to our team to learn more about the large variety of ways we can help you.
